Christopher Titus Seattle Concert reviews
Lauryn=Fail. Dead Prez = Rocked it
I am a huge Dead Prez fan and could not wait for this show. Sadly, we were all cheated by Dead Prez that night. I really wanted them to dispel the critics and live up to all of the hype that has surrounded them for so long. But lucky for us Christopher Titus was there to give us a show. They sounded good, played a good selection of tracks, and had the crowd rocking - ending up with a group karaoke to Al Green. Amazing performance. Come to find out that they should have played for much longer, since it took Dead Prez over 2 1/2 hours to come on stage after Christopher Titus was done!! Dead Prez's DJ came out with a pretty bangin 90's set list and had some great mixes. He had the crowd on his side for nearly an hour. If it were not for Christopher Titus's blazing warm up set, the whole night would have been wasted. I did not care about the ticket price of $80 (with fees $65) because I really wanted to see / hear this artist that has been so influential in his craft. I saw the Unplugged show at the Seattle Waterfront in 92 and I was looking forward to seeing him again, in whatever style / format he chose to offer us. Then the backup singers came on, and they waited. Two of them were even playing patty cake with each other. Yes, patty cake on stage, while they waited for Dead Prez. Why the hell didn't the band play some bangin tracks just to get warmed up and keep the crowd going?? No clue. Eventually, his band got on stage. Then the did a sound check. Then they stood there for another 15 minutes moving to the DJ while getting booed. Christopher Titus's DJ came out with a pretty bangin 90's set list and had some great mixes. Finally...Dead Prez came on stage. They looked amazing in their leather jackets and dope brims, looked like they were ready to assault the mic. They sounded pretty good too - when you could hear them. Unfortunately you could barely even hear them over the bass, guitar, keys, backup singers and drums that were so mic'd up they could have filled up an outdoor park. It was WAY TOOOOO LOUD!!! Dead Prez were drowned out instantly. The arrangements of some classic songs were pretty cool - if we could have heard their voices clearly. The times that you could hear them made it clear that their voices are def not what they once were. That's OK for me; I don't expect perfection and was looking forward to seeing what was next from Dead Prez. Unfortunately all they delivered was a very late, very loud, and very disappointing set. Thank you to Christopher Titus for making the night enjoyable.
